Secondary 2 (IGCSE)

In Year 10 students begin a two-year course of study leading to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). The CIE IGCSE curriculum provides a broad study programme across a wide range of subject areas. It encourages students to develop investigative and problem-solving skills, to apply practical skills, knowledge and understanding and to learn to work as part of a team but also independently.

Students in Year 10 are required to study eight subjects, and Year 11 a minimum of seven, from each of five different subject areas: Science, Mathematics, Languages, Humanities and Creative & Vocational. Each subject counts as one credit point towards the students final graduation requirements from MEFIS. IGCSE examinations, a measure of international assessment administered by CIE,  are usually taken in the May-June examination session in Year 11. Self-study options also allow students to sit additional examinations.

Students in Years 10 and 11 are assessed regularly to plan their learning and to assess attainment. They sit ‘mock’ examinations in February-March and final examinations in May-June.
