Welcome to the 2016-17 school year at MEF IS Izmir!
We are excited to see our returning students back after the long summer break, and loved meeting all our new friends!
To those new to MEF IS, my name is Carolina (or Ms. Carol), I am a school counselor/psychologist from Porto Alegre, Brazil. This is my second year at MEF IS Izmir. I work with the whole school, from Reception 1 all the way up to Year 13. I deal with all things related to social, emotional and academic development, as well as university preparation and applications for Secondary students.
In these first few weeks I will be visiting classrooms, supporting new students' adaptation to school, helping out with the younger students and getting to know them better. I will also be working on Student Council, together with Mr. Angus (Year 6 teacher) and guiding the election process for this great student leadership team. You will be hearing more information about STUCO soon! I will also be leading PSHE assemblies for both Primary and Secondary levels.
Please, encourage your child to come see me if they are having a difficult time in school. Students can come talk to me about any topics, from friendships to being homesick, conflicts, anxiety, fears, relationships, making decisions, stress, organization skills, study skills, planning for the future, changes and transitions, etc.
I can meet with students on a need-basis, and if your child is referred to Counselling by a teacher or administrator and we decide he/she would benefit from regular weekly or bi-weekly sessions, you will receive a letter of consent with more information.
If you would like to talk about your child's development, adaptation to school or any other concerns, please feel free to contact me via email@example.com. We can make an appointment to meet if you prefer. I welcome every opportunity to learn more about your child and be able to better support students in their journey at MEF IS and beyond!
I will also be publishing articles for our weekly newsletter and look forward to discuss a variety of topics related to parenting and child/adolescent development, as well as sharing resources you can use at home. If you have any comments or suggestions, please contact me; your feedback is valuable!
I wish us all a wonderful new school year!
Ms. Carolina Barboza
