We are pleased to announce that the majority of the Greenhouse Book Club orders will be delivered to our school next week.
We feel very fortunate to be able to participate in this wonderful initiative to encourage reading in English. Greenhouse provides the students with a great opportunity to access to excellent quality English literature.
However, due to a high demand of particular books, sometimes the company runs out of some titles which means children have to wait a bit longer for those. To find out more information about which titles are still pending, please visit out web site at MEFIS Izmir Library
If you are interested in attending English or Turkish lessons, please contact Miss Selin for some more information.
- A moment from our Atatürk's Remembrance Day
Message from the Principal
We were lucky and thankful that it didn’t rain as predicted last Friday so that we could go ahead with our Sports Day. It was a day full of fun and enjoyment. I know a lot of effort goes into setting up an event like this and wish to thank each and everyone of the behind the scenes team. Obviously, our P.E. teacher needs a special mention for all her hard work in organising the whole thing - thanks for all your energy, enthusiasm and dedication, Miss Samantha!
I am impressed once again with the fantastic teamwork that goes on here at MEFIS Izmir! It was great to see all the students, parents, support staff, and teachers out at the track demonstrating the strength and power of teamwork.
I am very proud to be a member of this team!
Wishing you a pleasant weekend,
Sports Day Stars
Please click on this link to see the names of students who won medals at Sports Day. Names are written in ranking order 1st to 3rd. Congratulations to them all!
I was greeted on Monday with a 'We have a rain forest in the Year 3 classroom, Miss Sara!' and I had to go and take a look. They were right; trees, lianas, wild animals .... of course, the new Social Studies unit! In Year 3 students have started a new unit called: Saving the World: the Rain forests. The central idea of this unit is that plants are important for the survival of humans and animals; students will be learning how plants help us survive, how our lifestyle affects them and how the destruction of rain forests is damaging our planet. So, if you feel like going somewhere exotic next week, come and visit Miss Gail and her green classroom.
Winter Bazaar Tombola
The Winter Bazaar will be taking place on December 10th between 10:30-14:00. There will be Performing Arts ensembles (Year 5 to Year 9), Teachers run activities, Student Council games, Lower Primary carols, and Parent Council initiatives.
More information will be circulated in the next few weeks but for now we are asking your support for the Tombola, run by the Parent Council. To make it a huge success we accept donations from all our parents from Reception 1 to Year 13. If you would like to contribute to this year's tombola, please send your donations to your child's homeroom teacher. Here are some suggestions as to what you could contribute: - A bottle (It doesn't just have to be wine!); chocolate boxes; new toys - any age; Food: anything yummy!; Toiletries: soaps, bath products, perfumes, body creams; New books; Seasonal gifts. If you could wrap your contribution, we would be extremely grateful. Thanks in advance for your support.
In the run up to Christmas the parent council will be organising a few fund raising events, in order to support our children, over the coming year. This year, we are asking for your help with the following:
Second hand,previously loved, sale
It is important to stress that ALL funds raised go directly towards improving our children's emotional and physical well being at school. Our core aim is to enhance their overall experience at MEF IS. This year we are supporting activities such as the winter bazaar, secondary prom, and the primary disco. We can make these events really special with your help and support. The parent council meets every month for coffee and welcome newcomers with open arms. Please join us at our next gathering in the new year.
Thank you for your continued support.
The Nutrition Committee strives to make sure our children eat a balanced meal every day in school. In order to do this, your contribution as a parent in invaluable, so if you are a parent of a Year 1 to 6 student, please take a few moments to complete this very simple questionnaire. Thank you!

Managing stress and exam anxiety
This week the Upper Secondary students participated in a special school assembly about stress, anxiety and tips for managing exam anxiety. Below you can find some of the topics we discussed. Be sure to check out the awesome posters the students created with their own strategies and advice!
Preparing for an exam does not start the night before, or even the week before a test. It should be an on-going process. The exam is one indicator of your learning and school performance. But for that moment to go on smoothly you need to make sure you do your part. Please click here for some ideas.
